Pumpkin Spice Buttermilk Waffles

These Pumpkin Spice Buttermilk Waffles are the perfect breakfast for the cold seasons. They are and family favorite and I hope they become a staple in your household as well!

It is officially pumpkin spice season, and I am excited to bring you all some yummy pumpkin spice recipes starting off with these delicious pumpkin spice buttermilk waffles! These waffles are perfect for those fall mornings when you want to enjoy something nice and festive. The smell alone will fill your home and put a smile on your face. My family absolutely loves when I make these waffles. My daughter asks for them on a regular basis, and they are so quick and easy to whip up!

Using just one bowl, start with your dry ingredients and then add in your wet ingredients and mix it all together! Batter done, that fast! If you are a lover of cinnamon, then feel free to add more into your batter. I use pumpkin pie spice and you can add more of that than what the recipe calls for as well if you want more of that flavor in your waffles. You can even add pumpkin spice extract as well! Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy! I love topping mine with powdered sugar and syrup. They are literally the best this way!

I am sure there are some of us who would enjoy pumpkin spice drinks and food all year long if we could. Anything with pumpkin spice just gives me that cozy, under a blanket watching your favorite movie feeling. I love these waffles for that reason, and they taste amazing. They have the perfect amount of pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice that is not too overpowering and works well incorporated into the buttermilk waffle flavor.

Ingredients in Pumpkin Spice Buttermilk Waffles

Flour- This is the base of the recipe and I like to use all-purpose flour in all my waffle recipes.

Granulated sugar- This is used to add sweetness to your waffles. The buttermilk and pumpkin puree can easily be bitter and need a little extra sugar than my regular waffles call for.

Brown sugar- I use a little brown sugar for this recipe because it just adds that missing sweet touch that all pie flavored things need!

Pumpkin pie spice- This spice mixture has cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger which are staples in pumpkin pie and necessary for the flavor of these waffles.

Baking Powder- This helps your waffles to rise and be fluffy on the inside.

Salt- Almost all recipes need a little salt for balance!

Eggs- Make sure to beat your eggs together before adding them into your dry ingredients. Eggs help give your waffles the crunch that they need and add to the soft fluffiness inside as well.

Butter- I use melted butter to add to the texture and crispy outside that waffles have.

Buttermilk- This milk is used for fluffiness, texture, and adds a unique delicious flavor that makes everything better. It is used in a lot of cakes, biscuits, dinner rolls, and so much more.

Pumpkin puree- You can’t have pumpkin spice without the pumpkin! You can use homemade, or store bought.

Vanilla extract- If you’ve been following my blog then you already knew this ingredient was coming. Vanilla extract makes all waffles and pancakes taste magical!

Water- I use a little water in my batter just to get it to the consistency that I like but you can use regular milk if you would like to as well.

Tips for Making Pumpkin Spice Buttermilk Waffles

  • Do not overfill the waffle maker or else the batter will spill out and create a huge mess that you will have to clean up.
  • Some waffle makers do not have a timer, so it is best to check on your waffle after about 60-90 seconds and see how it is doing. The smaller the waffle maker, the shorter time each waffle will need and vice versa.
  • Melt your butter first so that it has time to cool before adding it to your batter.
  • These waffles are great for making a big batch and then freezing whatever is left over. Whenever you want to enjoy a waffle just take one out of the freezer and put it in the toaster or the oven and heat until the outside is crispy again and the waffle is completely warm throughout.
  • If you are a lover of cinnamon, then add more into your batter. My pumpkin spice is more of a subtle taste where you know that it is there, but it is not too bold.
  • You can make different shaped waffles like the pumpkin shaped ones that I made as well. I got the waffle maker pictured below from Target in the Halloween section.
