Cookies & Cream Milkshake Recipe

Milkshakes are some of the best things to drink especially in these warmer months ahead of us!

Milkshakes can come in so many different flavors with different add ins and they are beyond delicious! Cookies & Cream just so happens to be one of my all time favorite milkshake flavors. I love to use Oreos in mine and maybe eat a few while I’m making the shakes. Don’t tell anyone, that’s our little secret!

The fact that cookies & cream milkshakes can even be made at home is one of the best things that I have ever learned. I started making these a few years back when my husband and I first moved together, and they are definitely a treat that we enjoy from time to time. These milkshakes are creamy and full of that delicious chocolate sandwich cookie flavor that makes you want more and more.

This simple and yummy recipe will keep you cool on a hot day and even satisfy your sweet tooth when it’s cold outside and you’re warm at home relaxing. The combination of vanilla ice cream and Oreo cookie pieces just tastes incredible together! Not to mention the extra splash of vanilla that I like to add for even more flavor. Oh my goodness!

Ingredients in Cookies & Cream Milkshake

  • Vanilla Ice Cream– I prefer French vanilla ice cream because of the flavor but regular vanilla works just fine as well.
  • Milk– I use skim or zero fat milk since the ice cream and cookies give this shake plenty of flavor. The milk is just to thin the ice cream out for drinking.
  • Oreos– You can use your favorite chocolate sandwich cookies but oreos happen to be my favorite in cookies & cream milkshakes!
  • Vanilla extract– This is just for extra vanilla flavor and you really only need a splash. Feel free to omit if you do not have any on hand.

Tips for Making the Best Cookies & Cream Milkshakes

  • You want to soften your ice cream before blending for the smoothest milkshake possible. This will allow the ice cream to blend easier and to be measured out with ease. When it is fresh from the store it is pretty soft but once it is opened and in the freezer at home it gets harder so if this is the case for your ice cream then allow it to rest on the counter for a bit while you grab everything you will need.
  • I like to crush my Oreos in a sandwich bag before blending. This gives you the option to just stir the cookies in for more cookie bites and you’ll need thicker straws for this. The other advantage is when you add them in you do not have to blend the shake as much to fully incorporate the cookies.
  • For that reason, I suggest blending everything together minus the Oreos, then blend the Oreos in last.
  • If you like more cookies, add more. You can even stir some in after for more texture in your milkshake.
  • If you like more vanilla flavor, add more vanilla extract.

How to Make a Cookies & Cream Milkshake

  1. Set ice cream out on counter to soften it for about 10 minutes.
  2. Place Oreos in a sandwich bag and crush them into big chunks.
  3. In a blender, add ice cream, vanilla extract, and milk and blend until smooth.
  4. Add crushed Oreos and blend until fully incorporated.
