Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef Patty & Toppings
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 slices American cheese, cut in half (optional)
- 1 tablespoon mustard (optional)
- 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional)
For the Buns & Toasting
- 12 small slider buns (such as Kings Hawaiian or similar soft buns)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting buns)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for toasting the slider buns.
- Caramelize the Onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the finely chopped onion with a small amount of oil or butter. Cook until softened and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Toast the Buns: Arrange the slider buns on a baking sheet and brush the insides lightly with butter. Bake in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes, or until they are slightly golden and toast lightly.
- Shape and Season the Beef Patty: Form the ground beef into one large, even patty roughly the size of your baking sheet. Season it generously with salt and pepper.
- Cook the Beef Patty: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the beef patty onto the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through in the center.
- Cut the Patty into Slider Sizes: Once cooked, remove the patty from the skillet and cut it into 12 small square portions so each piece fits perfectly inside the slider buns.
- Assemble the Sliders: Place each beef square on the toasted buns. Top each with a slice of caramelized onion and a half-slice of American cheese (if using). Add mustard or ketchup as desired.
- Serve: Serve the sliders immediately while warm and enjoy the classic combination of flavors.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you may add pickles or additional condiments.
- Ensure the beef is cooked through by checking internal temperature reaches at least 160°F (71°C).
- Using soft slider buns like Kings Hawaiian enhances the texture contrast with juicy patties.
- Caramelizing onions slowly enhances their sweetness and depth of flavor.
