Vanilla Custard:

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Additional:

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the puff pastry on it, prick with a fork, and bake until golden.
  2. Prepare the custard: In a saucepan, combine milk, cream, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook until thickened. Temper egg yolks, combine with milk mixture, and cook until pudding-like.
  3. Chill and assemble: Chill the custard, spread over one pastry rectangle, top with the second, and refrigerate. Dust with powdered sugar before slicing.
