Puff Pastry:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Vanilla Custard:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Additional:
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the puff pastry on it, prick with a fork, and bake until golden.
- Prepare the custard: In a saucepan, combine milk, cream, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook until thickened. Temper egg yolks, combine with milk mixture, and cook until pudding-like.
- Chill and assemble: Chill the custard, spread over one pastry rectangle, top with the second, and refrigerate. Dust with powdered sugar before slicing.
