Description

These Taco Tortilla Rolls are a quick and delicious appetizer or snack featuring a creamy, flavorful filling of cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheddar, shredded chicken, taco seasoning, taco sauce, and fresh cilantro wrapped in soft flour tortillas. Perfect for parties or casual gatherings, they are chilled to set and then sliced into bite-sized wheels for easy serving.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 8 oz (227 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 4 oz (113 g) sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) taco seasoning
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) taco sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups (170 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups (about 150 g) cooked and shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken recommended)
  • 1/3 cup (15 g) cilantro, finely chopped

Tortillas

  • 6 burrito-sized flour tortillas (fresh and pliable for easy rolling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the creamy base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps to create a creamy base that will help hold the filling together.
  2. Add taco seasoning and sauce: Mix in the taco seasoning and taco sauce into the cream cheese mixture until fully incorporated with no lumps, ensuring the filling has the signature zesty taco flavor.
  3. Incorporate cheese, chicken, and cilantro: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, cooked and shredded chicken, and finely chopped cilantro. Mix until these ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the filling.
  4. Spread filling on tortillas: Lay one burrito-sized flour tortilla on a clean surface. Using a spatula, spread about one-sixth of the filling evenly over the tortilla, leaving a half-inch border around the edges to prevent spilling during rolling.
  5. Roll the tortillas: Starting from one edge, roll the tortilla tightly but gently enough to avoid tearing. The tight roll maintains the structure and keeps the filling inside for easy slicing.
  6. Chill the rolls: Wrap each rolled tortilla tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld and firm up the mixture for cleaner slicing.
  7. Slice into wheels: Remove the plastic wrap and, using a sharp serrated knife, slice each roll into approximately 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) thick bite-sized wheels. Slice slowly and steadily to avoid unraveling the rolls.
  8. Store leftovers: Place any leftover roll-ups in an airtight container and refrigerate. They will remain fresh for up to 4 days.
