Sweet Chili Pineapple Sauce Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh pineapple, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, combine the finely chopped pineapple, 1/2 cup of water, white vinegar, honey, soy sauce, minced ginger, and minced garlic. Place the pan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Simmer Pineapple Mixture: Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes. This process softens the pineapple and allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
- Prepare Cornstarch Slurry: While the sauce is simmering, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl until fully dissolved, creating a smooth slurry.
- Thicken the Sauce: Stir the cornstarch slurry into the simmering pineapple sauce. Add the red chili flakes and salt to taste, then continue simmering for another 5 minutes. The sauce will start to thicken as the cornstarch activates.
- Cool the Sauce: Remove the saucepan from heat. Allow the sauce to cool, during which it will continue to thicken to a perfect consistency. Once cooled, it’s ready to serve or store.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of red chili flakes depending on your preferred spice level.
- Use fresh pineapple for the best flavor and texture.
- This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Great as a dipping sauce, glaze for grilled meats, or drizzled over stir-fries.
- Ensure to stir frequently while simmering to prevent the sauce from sticking to the pan.
