Description

Sweet and Spicy Garlic Steak Pasta is a flavorful Asian American-inspired main course featuring tender flank steak slices tossed in a rich, garlicky, sweet, and spicy sauce, combined with crisp vegetables and perfectly cooked pasta. This dish balances bold flavors and textures for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Pasta

  • 8 ounces spaghetti or linguine

For the Steak Marinade

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Sauce and Vegetables

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup snap peas
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chili paste or sriracha
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

For Garnish

  • Chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Prepare the spaghetti or linguine according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside to keep warm.
  2. Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak with cornstarch, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a pinch of black pepper. Toss well to coat evenly, allowing the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  3. Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak slices in a single layer and sear for 2 to 3 minutes until nicely browned but not fully cooked through. Transfer the steak to a plate and set aside.
  4. Prepare the Sauce: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in the brown sugar, chili paste, red pepper flakes, tomato paste, and beef broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until slightly thickened, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Cook the Vegetables: Add sliced red bell pepper and snap peas to the skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are crisp-tender.
  6. Combine Steak and Pasta: Return the seared steak to the skillet and toss it in the sauce and vegetables to coat well. Then add the cooked pasta and mix thoroughly until every ingredient is evenly combined and heated through.
  7. Season and Serve: Taste the pasta and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Serve the dish hot garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For a creamier sauce, stir in 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or add a splash of pasta water to the sauce before combining.
  • You can substitute chicken or shrimp for the flank steak to vary the protein.
  • Adjust the amount of chili paste or red pepper flakes to control the spice level according to your preference.
