Description

This Stuffed Cabbage Casserole is a hearty and flavorful dish that combines all the delicious elements of traditional stuffed cabbage rolls in an easy-to-make casserole form. It features a savory mixture of ground beef or turkey, cabbage, rice, and a blend of seasonings, all baked to perfection with a cheesy topping.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)

Sauce and Seasonings:

  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes with juices
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the beef and onions: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and onion, cook until beef is browned and onion is softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  3. Prepare the cabbage mixture: Stir in cabbage, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 10 minutes until cabbage softens. Remove from heat and stir in cooked rice.
  4. Assemble and bake: Transfer mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for 10 more minutes until cheese is melted.
  5. Serve: Garnish with parsley before serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare this casserole in advance and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • For a lower-carb option, swap the rice for cauliflower rice.
