Ingredients
Scale
Bagel Sandwich
- 2 Everything Bagels, split
- 4 Large Eggs
- 4 slices Cheddar Cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 8 oz Steak, thinly sliced (Ribeye or Sirloin recommended)
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 tablespoon Butter
- Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper to taste
Optional Toppings
- Hot sauce, for serving
- Caramelized Onions
- Sriracha Mayo
Instructions
- Slice the steak: If your steak isn’t already thinly sliced, partially freeze it for about 30 minutes to make slicing easier. Then, slice the steak about 1/8 inch thick for quick and even cooking.
- Season the steak: In a bowl, toss the sliced steak with a generous pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Optionally add garlic powder or onion powder for extra flavor.
- Heat the skillet: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot to ensure a good sear.
- Cook the steak: Add the steak slices in a single layer to the hot skillet. Avoid overcrowding to prevent steaming. Cook 1-2 minutes per side until nicely browned and cooked to your desired doneness.
- Rest the steak: Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside on a plate. Tent loosely with foil to keep warm and let the juices redistribute.
- Cook the eggs: In the same skillet or a non-stick pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Crack the eggs in and cook to preference (sunny-side up, over easy, medium, or hard).
- Season eggs: Season the eggs with salt and pepper to taste.
- Melting cheese: During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each egg. Cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese quickly.
- Toast bagels: While the eggs cook, toast the bagel halves to your desired level of crispness.
- Assemble sandwiches: Place the bottom half of each bagel on a plate, divide the cooked steak evenly on top, then add the cheesy eggs.
- Add optional toppings: Add caramelized onions, hot sauce, or sriracha mayo if desired.
- Top and serve: Place the bagel tops on each sandwich and serve immediately while warm and melty.
Notes
- Partially freezing steak makes thin slicing easier and ensures even cooking.
- Do not overcrowd the skillet when cooking steak to get a proper sear.
- Resting steak after cooking helps keep it juicy and flavorful.
- Covering eggs with a lid helps melt the cheese faster.
- Customize with optional toppings to suit your taste preferences.
- Cook eggs to your preference, adjusting cooking times accordingly.
