Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs, whisked
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
Toppings
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts into bite-size pieces and pat them dry with paper towels to ensure the coating sticks properly.
- Coat the Chicken: Set up two bowls—one with whisked eggs and one with cornstarch. Dredge each piece of chicken first in the egg, then coat thoroughly with cornstarch to create a crispy crust when fried.
- Fry the Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces in batches for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, until golden and crisp. Transfer cooked chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, crushed red pepper flakes, sriracha, ketchup, and chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until the sauce slightly thickens.
- Toss Chicken in Sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss it in the sauce until each piece is fully coated and heated through.
- Serve: Plate the sauced chicken and top with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles for a complete and satisfying meal.
Notes
- Adjust the spiciness by increasing or decreasing the amount of sriracha and crushed red pepper flakes according to your preference.
- Serve the Spicy Dragon Chicken over steamed rice, jasmine rice, or noodles to soak up the delicious sauce.
- To make it gluten-free, substitute soy sauce with tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce alternative.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated in a skillet for best texture.
