Description

Spicy Dragon Chicken is a flavorful Asian-inspired main course featuring crispy pan-fried chicken bites coated in a sweet, tangy, and spicy sauce made with soy sauce, honey, sriracha, and more. Topped with green onions and sesame seeds, this dish offers a perfect balance of heat and sweetness, ideal for serving over steamed rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, whisked
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth

Toppings

  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts into bite-size pieces and pat them dry with paper towels to ensure the coating sticks properly.
  2. Coat the Chicken: Set up two bowls—one with whisked eggs and one with cornstarch. Dredge each piece of chicken first in the egg, then coat thoroughly with cornstarch to create a crispy crust when fried.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces in batches for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, until golden and crisp. Transfer cooked chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  4. Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, crushed red pepper flakes, sriracha, ketchup, and chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until the sauce slightly thickens.
  5. Toss Chicken in Sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss it in the sauce until each piece is fully coated and heated through.
  6. Serve: Plate the sauced chicken and top with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles for a complete and satisfying meal.

Notes

  • Adjust the spiciness by increasing or decreasing the amount of sriracha and crushed red pepper flakes according to your preference.
  • Serve the Spicy Dragon Chicken over steamed rice, jasmine rice, or noodles to soak up the delicious sauce.
  • To make it gluten-free, substitute soy sauce with tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce alternative.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated in a skillet for best texture.
