Description

This Salisbury Steak Meatballs recipe features tender, flavorful meatballs simmered in a rich brown gravy, perfect for a comforting and hearty meal. Combining classic seasonings with a homemade gravy, this dish is easy to prepare and great for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Gravy and Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 2 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatball mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Form meatballs: Roll the mixture into meatballs approximately 1.5 inches in diameter, ensuring they are uniform in size for even cooking.
  3. Brown the meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook them on all sides until browned, about 5-7 minutes, which helps develop flavor and texture.
  4. Set meatballs aside: Remove the browned meatballs from the skillet and place them on a plate to prepare for the gravy.
  5. Prepare the gravy: In the same skillet, add the packet of brown gravy mix and 2 cups of beef broth. Stir well, scraping the bottom of the pan to loosen any browned bits for added flavor.
  6. Simmer meatballs in gravy: Return the meatballs to the skillet with the gravy. Cover and let them simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes until the meatballs are fully cooked and the gravy thickens to a rich consistency.
  7. Serve: Spoon the meatballs and thickened gravy onto plates and serve hot for a comforting meal.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs.
  • Use low-sodium beef broth to reduce salt content if desired.
  • These meatballs pair well with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
  • To ensure meatballs are cooked through, use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
