Description
A deliciously indulgent Pizza Grilled Cheese sandwich combining the gooey richness of melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, spicy pepperoni, and savory pizza sauce, all grilled to golden perfection with a flavorful garlic butter spread.
Ingredients
Scale
Garlic Butter Spread
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Sandwich
- 4 slices bread
- ¼ cup pizza sauce (plus more for dipping, if desired)
- 4 slices mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup shredded Parmesan or mozzarella cheese
- 16 slices pepperoni
Instructions
- Make the Garlic Butter Spread: In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed, then set the spread aside for later use.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Lay out the 4 slices of bread on a flat surface and spread approximately 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce thinly over each slice, ensuring an even coating.
- Add Cheese Layers: Place one slice of mozzarella cheese on each slice of bread. Then, sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of shredded Parmesan or mozzarella cheese on two of the slices.
- Add Pepperoni: Top the two slices layered with shredded cheese with 8 slices of pepperoni each, distributing them evenly.
- Form the Sandwiches: Place the remaining slices of bread on top of the prepared slices to form two sandwiches.
- Butter the Sandwiches: Spread the prepared garlic butter mixture on one side of each sandwich generously.
- Cook the Sandwiches: Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Place the buttered side of each sandwich face down in the skillet. Then spread the remaining garlic butter mixture on the top sides of each sandwich.
- Grill Until Golden: Cook each sandwich for 3-5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese inside has melted completely. Remove from skillet and serve immediately with extra pizza sauce for dipping, if desired.
Notes
- Use bread of your choice; thick slices hold up better and give a crispier crust.
- Adjust cooking time depending on your stovetop’s heat to avoid burning.
- For a spicier kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the garlic butter spread.
- Leftover sandwiches can be reheated in a skillet or air fryer for best texture.
- Feel free to substitute pepperoni with other favorite pizza toppings like sautéed mushrooms or olives.
