Description
These Philly Cheese Steak Burgers are a delicious twist on the classic sandwich, featuring juicy beef patties topped with melted provolone cheese and sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms, all sandwiched between toasted buns.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef Patties:
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Toppings:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small yellow onion, sliced
- 4 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
- Mayonnaise or cheese sauce for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef Patties: In a medium bowl, gently mix the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 3–4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. Add a slice of provolone cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- Sauté the Toppings: Meanwhile, in a separate skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms. Sauté for 6–8 minutes until vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized.
- Assemble the Burgers: Spread mayo or cheese sauce on the toasted buns if desired. Place the burger patties on the bottoms of the buns, top with the sautéed veggies, and close with the top bun. Serve hot.
Notes
- For a leaner version, use ground turkey or chicken.
- You can also swap provolone with mozzarella or white American cheese for different flavor profiles.
