Description

A classic Chinese stir-fry dish featuring tender chicken breast and crisp vegetables in a savory soy-based sauce, perfect for a quick and flavorful weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 1 lb chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Vegetables

  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup baby corn, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Seasoning

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, preparing for sautéing.
  2. Cook chicken: Add the thinly sliced chicken breast to the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes until golden and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté vegetables: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic, sliced mushrooms, bell pepper, and baby corn. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  4. Prepare sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and chicken broth until well combined and smooth.
  5. Simmer sauce: Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the vegetables and bring it to a gentle simmer, allowing it to thicken slightly.
  6. Combine chicken and sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens further and the chicken is fully coated and heated through.
  7. Season and serve: Season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve the Moo Goo Gai Pan hot over steamed rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce and check oyster sauce for gluten content.
  • You can substitute chicken breast with boneless chicken thighs for a juicier texture.
  • Add other vegetables like snow peas or bok choy for variety and nutrition.
  • Make sure to slice the chicken thinly to ensure quick and even cooking.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of chicken broth to loosen it up.
