Ingredients
Scale
Pancake Buns
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Sandwich Filling
- 4 breakfast sausage patties
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- Butter or oil, for cooking
Instructions
- Prepare the Pancake Buns: In a mixing bowl, whisk together self-rising flour, milk, egg, maple syrup, and optional vanilla extract until the batter is smooth with no lumps. Heat a nonstick pan or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with butter or oil. Using a spoon or ladle, pour the batter into 3 to 4-inch rounds. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges are set, approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Flip each pancake and cook until golden brown on the other side. Remove the pancake buns and set them aside.
- Cook the Sausage Patties: In a skillet, heat butter or oil over medium heat. Add the breakfast sausage patties and cook thoroughly, about 4 to 5 minutes per side depending on thickness, until browned and fully cooked. Drain the patties on paper towels to remove excess grease.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Lay one pancake bun on a clean surface, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top, then add a hot sausage patty so the cheese can melt slightly. Top with another pancake bun to close the sandwich.
- Serve: Serve the McGriddle Muffins immediately while warm to enjoy the gooey melted cheese paired with soft, sweet pancake buns.
Notes
- Using self-rising flour eliminates the need for additional leavening agents.
- Vanilla extract is optional but adds a lovely depth to the pancake buns.
- Adjust maple syrup quantity to your desired level of sweetness.
- Use pre-made breakfast sausage patties for convenience or make your own for fresher flavor.
- Serve with fresh fruit or eggs for a complete breakfast.
