Description

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

  • 3/4 cup whole milk (warmed)

  • 1 large egg

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Extra lemon zest for garnish

Instructions

  1. Dough Preparation: In a large bowl, whisk together 2 1/2 cups flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms, adding the remaining flour as needed. Knead on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  2. Rising and Filling: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour. Combine sugar and lemon zest for the filling. Roll out the dough, spread softened butter, and sprinkle with lemon-sugar mixture. Roll up, cut into rolls, and place in a baking dish.
  3. Baking and Glazing: Let the rolls rise, then bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes. Prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, lemon juice, and milk. Drizzle over warm rolls and garnish with lemon zest.

Notes

  • For extra lemon flavor, add a teaspoon of lemon extract to the glaze.
