Ingredients
Scale
Chocolate Shell
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate)
Filling
- 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
- 1/2 cup hot cocoa mix (store-bought or homemade)
Decoration (Optional)
- Crushed peppermint
- Sprinkles
- Edible glitter
- Mini chocolate chips
Equipment
- Silicone chocolate bomb mold (2-inch spheres)
Instructions
- Melt Chocolate: Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl using 20-second bursts, stirring thoroughly between each burst until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
- Coat Mold: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the melted chocolate into each mold cavity, using the back of the spoon to evenly coat the sides, ensuring the shell is thick enough to hold its shape.
- Freeze Shells: Place the mold in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes or until the chocolate has completely set and hardened.
- Remove Shells: Carefully pop the hardened chocolate shells out of the silicone mold, handling gently to avoid cracking.
- Fill Shells: Fill half of the chocolate shells with approximately 1 tablespoon of hot cocoa mix and a handful of mini marshmallows.
- Warm Edges: Warm a plate in the microwave briefly; press the open edges of the empty half-shells onto the warm plate just long enough to slightly melt and soften the edges.
- Seal Bombs: Immediately press each filled half-shell against a warmed edge half-shell to seal them together, forming a complete sphere.
- Decorate: Drizzle additional melted chocolate over the sealed bombs and decorate with crushed peppermint, sprinkles, edible glitter, or mini chocolate chips as desired.
- Serve: To enjoy, place one hot chocolate bomb in a mug, pour 1.5 cups of hot milk over it, and stir until the bomb has completely melted and the drink is smooth and creamy.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate for the best melting and flavor.
- Ensure molds are completely dry to help chocolate set properly.
- Customize fillings by adding peppermint pieces or flavored cocoa mix.
- Store finished hot chocolate bombs in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
- If chocolate shells crack, use melted chocolate as ‘glue’ to seal before decorating.
