Description

These Honey Garlic Jerk Chicken Wings are a perfect combination of spicy jerk seasoning and sweet honey garlic glaze. Crispy on the outside thanks to the air fryer, and tender on the inside, they make a delicious gluten-free appetizer or snack that’s bursting with Caribbean-inspired flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Wings

  • 2 1/2 lb party chicken wing dings (disjointed with tips removed)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 tsp jerk seasoning (up to 9 tsp for extra heat)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Cooking spray

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp tamari (gluten-free soy sauce)
  • 1/4 tsp gluten-free hot sauce
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger (or fresh grated ginger)
  • 1/8 tsp smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken wings: In a large bowl, pat dry the chicken wings with a paper towel. Season them with salt, pepper, jerk seasoning, and baking powder, tossing until the wings are evenly coated.
  2. Set up the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Spray the air fryer rack with cooking oil to prevent sticking and arrange the wings evenly, making sure they are not crowded to ensure even cooking.
  3. Air fry the wings: Cook the wings for 15-17 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. The wings should emerge crispy and almost fully cooked.
  4. Make the honey garlic jerk sauce: While the wings are cooking, melt the salted butter in a pot over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add remaining sauce ingredients: Stir in honey, tamari, gluten-free hot sauce, ground ginger, and smoked paprika. Allow the sauce to simmer gently for 3-4 minutes to meld the flavors, then remove from heat.
  6. Coat wings with sauce and finish cooking: Once the wings are cooked, toss or brush them thoroughly with the honey garlic jerk sauce. Return the coated wings to the air fryer and cook for an additional 8 minutes to let the sauce set and caramelize slightly.
  7. Serve: Remove wings from the air fryer and serve hot for a flavorful, crispy, and sticky treat.

Notes

  • For extra spicy wings, increase jerk seasoning to 9 tsp as preferred.
  • Make sure to pat the wings dry before seasoning to ensure crispiness.
  • The baking powder helps achieve a crispy skin when air frying.
  • You can substitute fresh ginger for ground ginger if desired for a fresher flavor.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, these wings can be baked in a conventional oven at 425°F for about 40-45 minutes, turning halfway.
  • Ensure the wings do not overlap in the air fryer basket for even cooking.
