Ingredients
Scale
Chicken Wings
- 2 1/2 lb party chicken wing dings (disjointed with tips removed)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 8 tsp jerk seasoning (up to 9 tsp for extra heat)
- 2 tsp baking powder
- Cooking spray
Sauce
- 2 tbsp salted butter
- 5 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 1/2 tsp tamari (gluten-free soy sauce)
- 1/4 tsp gluten-free hot sauce
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger (or fresh grated ginger)
- 1/8 tsp smoked paprika
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken wings: In a large bowl, pat dry the chicken wings with a paper towel. Season them with salt, pepper, jerk seasoning, and baking powder, tossing until the wings are evenly coated.
- Set up the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Spray the air fryer rack with cooking oil to prevent sticking and arrange the wings evenly, making sure they are not crowded to ensure even cooking.
- Air fry the wings: Cook the wings for 15-17 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. The wings should emerge crispy and almost fully cooked.
- Make the honey garlic jerk sauce: While the wings are cooking, melt the salted butter in a pot over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add remaining sauce ingredients: Stir in honey, tamari, gluten-free hot sauce, ground ginger, and smoked paprika. Allow the sauce to simmer gently for 3-4 minutes to meld the flavors, then remove from heat.
- Coat wings with sauce and finish cooking: Once the wings are cooked, toss or brush them thoroughly with the honey garlic jerk sauce. Return the coated wings to the air fryer and cook for an additional 8 minutes to let the sauce set and caramelize slightly.
- Serve: Remove wings from the air fryer and serve hot for a flavorful, crispy, and sticky treat.
Notes
- For extra spicy wings, increase jerk seasoning to 9 tsp as preferred.
- Make sure to pat the wings dry before seasoning to ensure crispiness.
- The baking powder helps achieve a crispy skin when air frying.
- You can substitute fresh ginger for ground ginger if desired for a fresher flavor.
- If you don’t have an air fryer, these wings can be baked in a conventional oven at 425°F for about 40-45 minutes, turning halfway.
- Ensure the wings do not overlap in the air fryer basket for even cooking.
