Scale
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine whole milk and sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to steam.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reduces by about half and thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter, baking soda, and vanilla extract until smooth. Allow to cool completely; it will thicken further as it cools.
- Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can substitute half-and-half for part of the milk.
- This recipe yields about 1 cup of condensed milk, equivalent to one 14-ounce can.
