Description
This easy homemade balsamic glaze is a thick, sweet, and tangy reduction of balsamic vinegar perfect for drizzling over salads, roasted vegetables, meats, and desserts. Made from just balsamic vinegar and optional honey or brown sugar, it simmers down to a syrupy consistency and stores well in the fridge for months.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 2 cups balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: Pour the balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan and stir in the honey or brown sugar if using to add a touch of extra sweetness.
- Simmer the Vinegar: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low to maintain a simmer. Keep the saucepan uncovered and stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- Reduce to Glaze: Continue simmering until the vinegar has reduced by about half in volume and has thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon. This typically takes around 15-20 minutes.
- Cool the Glaze: Remove the pan from heat and allow the balsamic glaze to cool completely; it will thicken further as it cools.
- Store: Transfer the cooled glaze to an airtight glass jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator. It will keep well for 2 to 3 months.
Notes
- Store the glaze in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 to 3 months.
- If the glaze becomes too thick when chilled, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes or gently warm before using.
- You can adjust the sweetness by using honey or brown sugar to your taste.
