Description

These Green Velvet Cupcakes are a delightful twist on the classic red velvet, featuring a vibrant green hue and a moist, tender crumb. Topped with a rich cream cheese frosting, they are perfect for celebrations or anytime you want a visually stunning and delicious treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cupcake Batter

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 Âľ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons green food coloring

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners to prepare for baking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, which helps create a tender cupcake texture.
  4. Incorporate Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture, beating well after each addition to fully incorporate them and maintain the mixture’s smoothness.
  5. Add Flavor and Liquids: Stir in vanilla extract, buttermilk, and white vinegar until everything is evenly combined, allowing the acidity to react and tenderize the batter.
  6. Combine & Color: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix, then stir in the green food coloring to evenly tint the batter.
  7. Fill & Bake: Divide the batter equally among the cupcake liners, filling each about three-quarters full to allow room for rising, and bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool: Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool completely in the tin before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling; frosting warm cupcakes can cause melting.
  9. Prepare Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy, creating the base for the frosting.
  10. Add Sugar & Flavor: Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until the frosting is fluffy and well blended.
  11. Finish Frosting: Add the heavy cream and beat once more until the frosting is light, creamy, and perfect for spreading or piping.
  12. Frost Cupcakes: Using a piping bag or a spatula, apply the cream cheese frosting generously onto the cooled cupcakes.
  13. Decorate: Add sprinkles, gold dust, or edible glitter to garnish the cupcakes and give them a festive, eye-catching finish.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter and cream cheese are softened before mixing to avoid lumps in the frosting.
  • Do not overmix the batter once dry ingredients are added to prevent dense cupcakes.
  • Allow cupcakes to cool completely before frosting to maintain frosting texture and appearance.
  • Adjust food coloring quantity to achieve desired green intensity.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for best mixing results.
