Ingredients
Scale
Apples & Caramel
- 5 medium apples
- 1 package caramel wrappers (5 wrappers per package)
Chocolate Coating
- 1 package dark chocolate Wilton candy melts
- 1 package white chocolate Wilton candy melts
Toppings (Optional)
- Candy pieces (such as M&Ms)
- Crushed nuts
- Crushed cookies
Instructions
- Prepare Workspace: Line a baking tray or counter with wax paper or parchment paper to prevent the apples from sticking after coating.
- Organize Toppings: Pour any desired toppings like candies and nuts into small bowls or ramekins for easy access after coating.
- Insert Sticks: Place a craft stick firmly into the center of each apple to create a handle for dipping and decorating.
- Wrap with Caramel: Unwrap the caramel wrappers and carefully wrap each apple, covering them completely to form a smooth caramel layer.
- Melt Dark Chocolate: Place half of the dark chocolate candy melts package into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute and stir, then heat for additional 30-second intervals stirring after each until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
- Dip in Chocolate: Roll each caramel-coated apple in the melted dark chocolate to cover completely. Place each dipped apple onto the prepared parchment paper to set.
- Melt White Chocolate: Place half the white chocolate melts into a zip-top bag. Heat in the microwave for 1 minute, then press and smush the bag to break up melting chunks. Repeat heating in 30-second intervals and smushing until fully melted.
- Drain White Chocolate: Snip a tiny corner off the plastic bag to create a small hole for drizzling.
- Decorate Apples: Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the dark chocolate-coated apples in any desired pattern.
- Add Toppings: While the white chocolate is still wet, quickly sprinkle chosen toppings such as crushed cookies, nuts, or candy pieces over the apples.
- Set Chocolate: Allow the apples to dry completely on the parchment paper before storing to ensure the coatings are firm and not sticky.
Notes
- Use firm, crisp apples such as Granny Smith or Fuji for best texture and flavor contrast.
- Be careful when heating chocolate to avoid burning; stir often for even melting.
- You can substitute the dark chocolate with milk chocolate or colored candy melts for a different look.
- Store finished apples in a cool area or refrigerator to keep the coatings intact.
- Customize toppings to your preference including seasonal sprinkles or edible glitter for festive occasions.
