Description

Garbage Bread is a hearty, savory stuffed bread filled with bacon, ground beef, onions, cheese, and seasoned with steak seasoning. Wrapped in thin crust pizza dough and topped with cheddar jack cheese and a tangy mayo-ketchup sauce, this dish is perfect for a satisfying meal or party appetizer, baked to golden perfection in the oven.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Filling

  • 1/2 pound chopped bacon
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning (e.g., McCormick)

Cheese

  • 12 ounces Velveeta, cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar jack cheese

Dough and Sauce

  • 1 (13.8 ounce) thin crust pizza dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon and onions. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crisp. Remove bacon and set aside. In the bacon fat, sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent.
  2. Prepare ground beef mixture. Add the lean ground beef to the skillet with onions and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed. Stir in the steak seasoning, then add the cooked bacon back into the mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and remove from heat.
  3. Assemble the bread. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the thin crust pizza dough on a baking sheet. Distribute the cooked meat mixture evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the Velveeta cubes over the filling.
  4. Roll and seal the dough. Carefully roll the dough like a jelly roll, sealing the edges tightly to enclose the filling completely.
  5. Add toppings and sauce. Spread the mayonnaise evenly over the rolled dough, then drizzle the ketchup on top. Sprinkle the grated cheddar jack cheese generously over the roll.
  6. Bake the Garbage Bread. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before slicing into 6 servings. Serve warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute Velveeta with any creamy melting cheese if preferred.
  • Adjust the steak seasoning according to taste or use your favorite spice blend.
  • For a spicier version, add some chopped jalapeños or hot sauce into the filling.
  • Make sure to seal the dough edges well to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
