Description

These Funnel Cake Bites are a delightful twist on the classic fair treat, featuring a crispy golden exterior and tender interior. Made from a simple batter and fried to perfection, these bite-sized snacks are perfect for parties or a fun dessert. Serve them warm with a dusting of powdered sugar and optional whipped cream or fresh fruit for an irresistible indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Batter Ingredients

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of butter, melted

Frying

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Serving

  • Powdered sugar (for serving)
  • Whipped cream or fruit (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter, whisking together until smooth.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Add the pinch of salt, baking soda, and sugar to the wet mixture and stir well to combine evenly.
  3. Incorporate Flour: Gradually fold in the all-purpose flour until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  4. Prepare Batter Bag: Transfer the batter into a gallon-sized Ziplock bag and set it aside for a few minutes to rest.
  5. Heat Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan to about half an inch deep. Heat on high for two minutes, then reduce to medium heat.
  6. Test Oil Temperature: Drop a small amount of batter into the oil; if bubbles form around the edges, the oil is ready. If not, adjust the heat accordingly.
  7. Fry Funnel Cake Bites – Part 1: Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the Ziplock bag and slowly drizzle batter into the hot oil forming 1 to 2 small circles. Cook until the bottom side is golden brown.
  8. Fry Funnel Cake Bites – Part 2: Carefully flip the bites using a slotted metal spatula and cook the other side until golden brown.
  9. Drain Excess Oil: Remove the cooked funnel cake bites and place them on paper towels to absorb excess grease.
  10. Serve: Sprinkle the warm bites with powdered sugar and top with whipped cream or fruit if desired. Serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • Ensure oil temperature is medium to avoid burning the bites while cooking through.
  • Use a slotted spatula for easy flipping and oil drainage.
  • These bites are best enjoyed fresh and warm.
  • You can customize toppings with a variety of fresh fruits or flavored whipped creams.
  • Handle hot oil with care to avoid burns.
