Sausage and Shrimp
- 8 oz smoked sausage, sliced
- 12 oz shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Vegetables and Seasonings
- 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Sausage: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sausage is browned and crispy. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté the Shrimp: In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and the minced garlic. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the Cabbage: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet, then add the chopped cabbage. Season with smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.
- Combine and Finish: Return the cooked sausage and shrimp to the skillet with the cabbage. Toss everything together and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors nicely.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the dish with fresh parsley if desired, serve hot, and enjoy a flavorful and hearty meal.
Notes
- You can substitute smoked sausage with kielbasa or andouille sausage for a different flavor profile.
- For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes when cooking the cabbage.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice or crusty bread to soak up the juices.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Ensure shrimp is fully cooked to an opaque pink for safety and best texture.
