Description

These French Dip Stuffed Biscuits are a delicious twist on the classic sandwich, featuring tender roast beef, caramelized onions, and melted provolone cheese all baked inside flaky biscuit dough. Served with a rich and savory au jus made from beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, they make a perfect comforting appetizer or snack that’s easy to prepare in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Stuffed Biscuits:

  • 1 can (8 biscuits) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 lb roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1/2 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Au Jus:

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper to prepare for baking the stuffed biscuits.
  2. Sauté Onions: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and sauté for 5-7 minutes until the onions are softened and lightly caramelized, enhancing their natural sweetness.
  3. Warm Roast Beef: Add the sliced roast beef to the skillet with the onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes to warm through. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Remove the skillet from heat once combined.
  4. Prepare Biscuit Dough: Open the can of refrigerated biscuit dough and separate the individual biscuits. Flatten each biscuit into a disk shape using your fingers or a rolling pin, creating enough space for the filling.
  5. Assemble Biscuits: Place a slice of provolone cheese on each flattened biscuit. Add a spoonful of the beef and onion mixture on top of the cheese. Fold the biscuit dough over the filling and pinch the edges well to seal the stuffed biscuit.
  6. Place on Baking Sheet: Arrange the stuffed biscuits seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet to prevent opening during baking.
  7. Bake Biscuits: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the biscuits are golden brown and fully cooked through.
  8. Make Au Jus: While the biscuits bake, combine beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  9. Simmer Au Jus: Let the au jus simmer for about 5 minutes to meld the flavors. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Serve: Serve the hot French Dip Stuffed Biscuits with the savory au jus on the side for dipping, creating a delicious and satisfying meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute provolone cheese with Swiss or mozzarella if desired.
  • For a spicier kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
  • Make sure to seal the biscuits tightly to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
  • Leftover stuffed biscuits can be reheated in an oven or air fryer for best texture.
  • Use low-sodium beef broth to control salt level in the au jus.
