Description

This Fig, Goat Cheese & Pistachio Wreath is an elegant and delicious appetizer featuring flaky puff pastry filled with creamy goat cheese, sweet dried figs, and crunchy pistachios. Perfect for holiday gatherings or special occasions, it combines savory and sweet flavors in a beautiful, golden-baked wreath that’s sure to impress your guests.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed, if frozen)

Filling

  • 4 oz goat cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or crème fraîche
  • 1/2 cup dried figs, chopped
  • 1/4 cup pistachios, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Toppings & Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for drizzling)
  • Fresh rosemary for garnish (optional)

For Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to ensure the wreath doesn’t stick during baking.
  2. Prepare the Goat Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the softened goat cheese with the heavy cream or crème fraîche. Mix thoroughly until smooth and creamy. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper to enhance the flavor.
  3. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unroll the puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet. Using a rolling pin, gently roll out the pastry to smooth out any creases and to make sure it’s large enough to form the wreath.
  4. Assemble the Wreath: Evenly spread the goat cheese mixture on the center of the puff pastry, leaving about a 2-inch border around the edges free. Sprinkle the chopped dried figs and pistachios over the cheese mixture.
  5. Form the Wreath: Carefully cut slits about 1-2 inches wide around the edge of the pastry to create strips. Fold these strips over the filling, overlapping them to form a wreath shape. Tuck the ends underneath to secure the shape.
  6. Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg with a tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush this evenly over the exposed puff pastry to achieve a shiny, golden crust during baking.
  7. Bake: Place the wreath in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
  8. Serve: Allow the wreath to cool slightly. Optionally, drizzle with honey and garnish with fresh rosemary before serving warm for a festive presentation.

Notes

  • Use thawed puff pastry for easier handling and even baking.
  • The heavy cream can be substituted with crème fraîche for a tangier flavor.
  • Ensure the egg wash is applied evenly for consistent browning.
  • Adjust the amount of figs and pistachios to your taste preference.
  • Serve warm to enjoy the flavors and textures at their best.
