Description

Indulge in the ultimate chocolate lover’s dream with this Epic Chocolate Overload Explosion Cake. Layers of rich devil’s food chocolate cake, creamy buttercream, gooey hot fudge, and an assortment of chocolate delights create a decadent dessert experience you won’t soon forget.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake:

  • 1 box devil’s food chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Fillings and Toppings:

  • 1 cup mini chocolate chunks
  • 1/2 cup hot fudge sauce (plus more for drizzling)
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate buttercream or ganache
  • 1/2 cup crushed chocolate cookies (like Oreos)
  • 1/2 cup chopped chocolate bars (milk and dark)
  • Chocolate sprinkles or curls for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F and grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix Cake Batter: In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, sour cream, oil, eggs, and chocolate chips until well combined.
  3. Bake: Divide batter between pans and bake for 28–32 minutes. Cool cakes in pans, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  4. Assemble: Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread buttercream, drizzle with hot fudge, add crushed cookies and chopped chocolate. Top with second cake layer and repeat layers.
  5. Chill and Serve: Chill for 15–20 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.

Notes

  • Use ganache for a richer version.
  • Consider adding a layer of chocolate mousse or pudding between the cake layers.
  • Perfect for birthdays or special celebrations.
