Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 large cucumber
- 1 ½ cups Greek yogurt (preferably 2% or 5% fat)
- 1 garlic clove, finely minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Grate the cucumber: Using the large side of a box grater, grate the cucumber to produce fine strands.
- Remove excess moisture: Place the grated cucumber in a paper towel and squeeze thoroughly to remove as much moisture as possible to avoid a watery dip.
- Combine ingredients: Transfer the drained cucumber to a medium bowl. Add the Greek yogurt, finely minced garlic, lemon juice, chopped fresh dill, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
- Mix thoroughly: Stir all the ingredients together until well combined and smooth.
- Chill: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the tzatziki sauce for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld and develop fully.
- Serve: Enjoy chilled tzatziki as a dip with fresh vegetables or pita bread, or as a delicious topping for grilled meats and Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
Notes
- For best texture, remove excess water from cucumber to prevent watery dip.
- Use fresh dill for the most vibrant flavor; dried dill can be used but reduce quantity.
- Adjust garlic and lemon juice to taste for personal preference.
- Can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Opt for Greek yogurt with 2% or 5% fat for creaminess without being too heavy.
