- 2 cups whole milk

- 3 large egg yolks

For Garnish (Optional):
- Whipped cream

Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk in milk until smooth. In a separate bowl, lightly beat egg yolks. Gradually add some warm milk mixture to yolks, then return mixture to saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until custard thickens and bubbles (5–7 minutes). Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla until smooth. Let custard cool slightly.
- Layer bananas in serving cups, then pour warm custard over bananas. Chill for at least 2 hours.
- Before serving, top with whipped cream and crushed wafers if desired.
