Description

Indulge in a comforting and flavorful meal with this Cozy Gnocchi Bolognese recipe. Tender potato gnocchi coated in a rich and savory beef and tomato sauce, topped with Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bolognese Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, peeled and finely diced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 1 pound ground beef (or half beef and half pork)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine (optional)
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1 package (16 oz) potato gnocchi
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional for a richer sauce)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bolognese Sauce: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Sauté onion, carrot, and celery until softened. Add garlic and cook briefly. Brown the ground beef, then add tomato paste, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes. Cook to enhance flavors.
  2. Simmer the Sauce: Add red wine and reduce. Stir in crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 20–25 minutes.
  3. Cook the Gnocchi: Meanwhile, cook gnocchi according to package instructions and drain.
  4. Combine and Serve: Stir heavy cream into the sauce, then add cooked gnocchi. Simmer briefly, then serve topped with Parmesan and herbs.

Notes

  • Simmering the sauce longer enhances the depth of flavor.
  • The dish can be made in advance and gently reheated.
  • Pasta can be used as a substitute for gnocchi.
