Ingredients
Scale
Brownie Layer
- 1 batch of brownies (store-bought or homemade, about 9×13-inch pan)
Mousse Layer
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (melted and slightly cooled)
- 1 tub (8 oz) whipped topping (e.g., Cool Whip)
Whipped Cream
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Garnish
- Chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Brownies: Cut the prepared brownies into small cubes and set aside.
- Whip Cream: In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set aside half of the whipped cream for topping.
- Make Chocolate Mixture: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the melted chocolate and mix until well combined.
- Create Mousse: Fold in half of the whipped cream and all of the whipped topping into the chocolate-cream cheese mixture carefully to create a light and airy mousse.
- Layer the Trifle: In a large trifle dish or individual glasses, layer half of the brownie cubes, followed by half of the mousse, then a layer of the reserved whipped cream.
- Repeat Layers: Repeat the layering with remaining brownies, mousse, and top with the remaining whipped cream.
- Garnish: Sprinkle chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips on top for an attractive finish.
- Chill: Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the mousse to set.
Notes
- You can use store-bought brownies to save time or make your favorite homemade brownie recipe.
- Make sure the melted chocolate is slightly cooled so it doesn’t curdle the cream cheese mixture.
- For a richer flavor, use high-quality semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Chilling is important to let the mousse firm up and enhance the dessert’s texture and flavor.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
