For the waffles:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For serving:

  • butter
  • maple syrup
  • optional hot honey

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Marinate chicken pieces, then coat in seasoned flour.
  2. Fry the chicken: Heat oil in a skillet, fry chicken until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Prepare the waffles: Whisk dry ingredients, mix wet ingredients, combine, and cook in waffle iron.
  4. Serve: Stack waffles with fried chicken on top, and add butter, maple syrup, or hot honey.

Notes

  • Use bone-in chicken for extra flavor.
  • Add cayenne to the flour or hot sauce to the syrup for a spicy kick.
