Description

Cheesy Steak Fries is a deliciously indulgent dish featuring crispy golden fries topped with savory sautéed steak and onions, melted cheddar cheese, and fresh parsley. Perfect for a hearty snack or casual meal, this recipe combines simple ingredients and straightforward cooking steps to deliver a satisfying and flavorful comfort food experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Topping

  • 500g steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking (about 1 tbsp)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Fries and Cheese

  • 1 kg frozen fries
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven as directed on the fries package to ensure it’s ready for baking the fries.
  2. Cook the Fries: Spread the frozen fries evenly on a baking tray and cook according to package instructions until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes depending on your oven and the fries used.
  3. Prepare the Steak: While the fries are baking, heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook until they soften and start to caramelize, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add Garlic and Steak: Stir in the minced garlic and then add the thinly sliced steak to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to your taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the steak is browned and cooked through, approximately 4-6 minutes.
  5. Assemble the Dish: Once the fries are done baking, remove the tray from the oven. Evenly distribute the cooked steak and onion mixture over the fries, then sprinkle 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese generously on top.
  6. Bake Again: Place the tray back in the oven and bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until the cheddar cheese has fully melted and is bubbly and slightly golden on top.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove the cheesy steak fries from the oven, sprinkle fresh chopped parsley over the dish for added color and freshness, then serve immediately while hot and cheesy.

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced steak for quick and even cooking.
  • Frozen fries can be substituted with homemade fries, but cooking times may vary.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of smoked paprika or chili flakes to the steak while cooking.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven for the best texture retention.
