Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ¾ cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
Filling
- 8 oz (about 20-25 slices) pepperoni
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp garlic powder
Egg Wash
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Activate the yeast and prepare dough: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, and olive oil. Add the activated yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Prepare the filling and roll the stromboli: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 12×16 inches). Evenly spread shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the dough, sprinkle Italian seasoning and garlic powder, then layer pepperoni slices on top.
- Roll and seal: Carefully roll the dough tightly from one long side to the other, creating a log. Pinch the edges to seal the seam and ends to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
- Apply egg wash: In a small bowl, beat together the egg and water. Brush the egg wash over the surface of the stromboli to give it a shiny, golden crust.
- Bake: Place the stromboli on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and let the stromboli cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
