Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Prepare yams: Arrange the sliced yams in a single layer in a buttered 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Make caramel sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar, heavy cream, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir until sugar is dissolved and mixture bubbles, about 4–5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover, baste yams with sauce, and bake for an additional 20–25 minutes until yams are tender and sauce is thick.
