  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, with juice
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Layers:

  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the Beef Mixture: In a large skillet, heat olive oil, sauté onion and garlic, add ground beef, brown, drain excess fat, add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Cabbage: Steam or sauté the cabbage in a separate pan until slightly tender.
  4. Assemble: In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer cabbage and beef mixture. Top with cheeses.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil, bake for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Rest and Serve: Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving.
