For the Beef Mixture:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, with juice
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the Layers:
- 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the Beef Mixture: In a large skillet, heat olive oil, sauté onion and garlic, add ground beef, brown, drain excess fat, add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.
- Prepare the Cabbage: Steam or sauté the cabbage in a separate pan until slightly tender.
- Assemble: In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer cabbage and beef mixture. Top with cheeses.
- Bake: Cover with foil, bake for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Rest and Serve: Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving.
