Ingredients
Scale
Biscuit Sandwiches
- 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated flaky biscuit dough
- 1/2 pound deli roast beef (thinly sliced)
- 6 slices provolone cheese (cut in halves)
Butter Mixture
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
Au Jus Sauce
- 1 packet (1 oz) au jus gravy mix
- 3 cups water
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of biscuits after baking.
- Prepare biscuit layers: Separate each biscuit into two layers, creating 16 thin rounds. Flatten each round slightly for an even biscuit layer. Place half of these rounds in the prepared baking dish as the bottom layer of the sandwiches.
- Assemble fillings: Top each bottom biscuit round with a few slices of thinly sliced roast beef and half a slice of provolone cheese. This layering creates the flavorful filling inside the biscuits.
- Complete biscuit sandwiches: Place the remaining biscuit layers on top of the beef and cheese layers. Gently press the edges to seal the biscuits, ensuring the filling stays inside during baking.
- Brush with butter mixture: In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley if using. Brush this mixture generously over the top of each biscuit to enhance flavor and develop a golden crust.
- Bake biscuits: Bake in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through. This cooking time ensures a soft inside and crispy outside.
- Prepare au jus sauce: While the biscuits bake, whisk the au jus gravy mix into 3 cups of water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes to thicken and develop rich flavor.
- Serve: Remove biscuits from oven and serve warm with the au jus sauce on the side for dipping, enhancing the classic French dip experience.
Notes
- You can substitute shredded beef or leftover roast beef for deli slices for a more rustic texture.
- Provolone cheese can be swapped with mozzarella or Swiss cheese according to preference.
- For additional flavor, add a thin layer of caramelized onions inside the biscuits before baking.
