Description

This Authentic Shrimp Creole recipe brings the flavors of Louisiana to your table with succulent shrimp cooked in a rich, flavorful tomato-based sauce. Serve over fluffy white rice for a truly satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp Creole:

  • 1 1/2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup seafood stock or chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and celery. Sauté for 6–8 minutes until softened.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), paprika, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook uncovered for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavors have melded.
  4. Add the shrimp and cook for 4–5 minutes, or until they are pink and just cooked through. Remove from heat and stir in green onions and parsley.
  5. Serve hot over cooked white rice.

Notes

  • For extra depth, use shrimp stock if available.
  • This dish gets better after a short rest, so letting it sit for 10 minutes before serving enhances the flavor.
  • Adjust heat with more or less hot sauce.
