Scale
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup finely grated carrot
- 1/2 cup finely chopped apple (peeled, core removed)
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or coconut oil (optional, for added moisture)
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup oat flour (or whole wheat flour)
- 1/4 cup rolled oats (optional, for texture)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the dog treats.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the finely grated carrot, finely chopped apple, egg, unsweetened applesauce, and optional olive oil or coconut oil. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the oat flour and rolled oats to the wet mixture. Stir the mixture until a dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, add a small amount of oat flour until it reaches a firm, kneadable consistency.
- Shape Treats: Take small portions of the dough and shape them into bone-shaped or small hard bone-sized treats. Place them spaced apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20-25 minutes or until the treats are golden brown and hard to the touch.
- Cool: Remove the treats from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before serving to your dog.
- Storage: Store the cooled treats in an airtight container. They can be kept at room temperature for up to two weeks or refrigerated for longer freshness.
Notes
- Always supervise your dog when giving new treats to ensure they do not have any allergies or adverse reactions.
- If your dog has a wheat allergy or gluten sensitivity, opt for oat flour to keep these treats gluten-free.
- The optional olive oil or coconut oil adds moisture and healthy fats but can be omitted if preferred.
- These treats are intended as snacks and should not replace a balanced diet.
- Hard texture helps promote dental health by reducing plaque buildup.
