Description

This Amish Farmhouse Feast is a hearty and comforting casserole layered with savory ground beef, tender potatoes, creamy mushroom sauce, and melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for family dinners, it’s a flavorful, easy-to-make dish that combines classic American farmhouse flavors in one satisfying baked casserole.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat & Vegetables

  • 2 pounds Ground Beef
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 4 cups Thinly Sliced Potatoes (about 3-4 medium potatoes)

Other Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside to prepare for the casserole assembly.
  2. Cook beef mixture: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and ground beef. Cook, breaking up the beef, until browned and cooked through. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  3. Prepare sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Worcestershire sauce until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Layer ingredients: Layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the prepared baking dish. Spoon half of the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes, then pour half of the sauce over the beef. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  5. Repeat layering: Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, the rest of the beef mixture, the remaining sauce, and finish with the remaining cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake covered: Cover the baking dish tightly with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 50-55 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
  7. Finish baking uncovered: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Rest and serve: Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes after baking to allow the layers to set. Slice into portions, serve hot, and enjoy your Amish farmhouse feast!

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced potatoes for quicker, even cooking.
  • Make sure to brown the beef thoroughly for maximum flavor.
  • Resting time helps the casserole hold its shape when served.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
  • You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with a homemade mushroom sauce for a fresher taste.
