Description

Korean Chinese Shrimp Toast is a delightful fusion appetizer that combines the flavors of Korea and China in a crispy, savory toast loaded with shrimp and aromatic seasonings. These toasts are a perfect balance of crunchy exterior and moist, flavorful shrimp filling.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Shrimp Paste:

  • 1/2 pound raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Pinch of salt

Additional Ingredients:

  • 8 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • Sweet chili sauce or soy dipping sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Roughly chop the shrimp: Place shrimp in a food processor and pulse until coarse paste forms.
  2. Prepare shrimp mixture: Mix shrimp paste with green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, egg white, cornstarch, white pepper, sugar, and salt.
  3. Assemble the toasts: Spread shrimp mixture on bread slices, press down, and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired. Cut into halves or quarters.
  4. Fry the toasts: Heat oil in a skillet, fry shrimp-side down first for 2–3 minutes, then flip and fry bread side for 1–2 minutes until golden and crispy.
  5. Serve: Drain on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

  • You can make the shrimp paste ahead and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
  • For extra crunch, use day-old bread.
  • Best enjoyed fresh but can be crisped up in the oven or air fryer.
